Our Gurudev is merciful to everybody, and always I remember one thing:

You see, Mahaprabhu actually never said, “I have given him mercy.” When Rupa Goswami was once writing the ‘Tuṇḍe tāṇḍavanī ratiṁ...’ sloka, Mahaprabhu asked him, “What are you writing?” but Rupa Goswami hid the paper somewhere on the roof. However, one day Mahaprabhu found it. When He read that sloka, He became surprised. He asked Swarup Damodar, “O, Swarup Damodar, how does he know My heart? How does he know such things?” Swarup Damodar replied, “Prabhu, it is only possible by Your mercy! You have given all Your mercy to Rupa Goswami, that is how he knows everything.” At that time Mahaprabhu admitted, “Yes, I have. I have given him mercy!” and then quickly added, “But it is not sufficient! You all should give your mercy to him!” That is why we say that we are in the Rupanuga-dhara line, we are going in this way.

Now our Param Guru Maharaj, Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, is carrying that wealth of Sri Rupanuga line. Just before Prabhupad Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur passes away, he wanted to hear the song ‘Sri Rupa Manjari pada,’ from his mouth [from the mouth of Srila B.R. Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj]. One of the devotees, perhaps Paramananda Prabhu, started singing, but Prabhupad showed anger and said, “I do not want to hear the tune! I told who must sing this song, so this song must be sung by him—I want to hear it from his mouth.” Then Srila Sridhar Maharaj started singing—he was singing and crying... Finally, Srila Prabhupad said also about Srila Sridhar Maharaj, “I am keeping only one man in this world who can carry my desire, my Rupanuga-dhara line.”

You can see also that in his lifetime, two and a half years before his departure, Srila Sridhar Maharaj made Srila Govinda Maharaj his successor, he gave him his chair. Shortly after that, there were two brahmacharis who wanted to take sannyas from Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj, but they were afraid to ask him. There was a disciple of Srila Prabhupad, Satish Prabhu (now Nayananda Das Babaji), who was an intimate friend of Srila Sridhar Maharaj, and these two brahmacharis went to this Satish Prabhu and asked him, “O Satish Prabhu, please go for us to Guru Maharaj—we want to take sannyas from him, please ask him if he can give it to us...” When Satish Prabhu asked Srila Guru Maharaj, he said, “I will not take any more sannyas disciples in Bengal, India. From now on, Govinda Maharaj will give sannyas in Bengal.” So, you can understand how much Srila Sridhar Maharaj depended upon Srila Govinda Maharaj...

It is not necessary to go here and there—if you go straight in the line of Rupanuga-dhara, if you will serve to Srila Gurudev, if you can fulfil his desire, then you will get super benefit in your spiritual life.

I have lived in our temple from 1992, and I am always trying to do something for him. Before I took sannyas, Guru Maharaj (Srila Govinda Maharaj) always told me, “Do not leave this temple,” and I said, “I will not.” So, from 1992 to 1999, for eight years, I never spent one night outside our temple, I never stayed in any other place. I was always at the temple. I have seen also how much honour all temples of Mayapur always give to our temple. When we make festivals, for example Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur’s festival or Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur’s appearance day, we make some ceremony on this day, and all Gaudiya Maths, all Mayapur temples do it together—they arrange a big meeting. Before, they would discuss, “Which temple party will go first during the parikrama?” and they unanimously decided that Srila Sridhar Maharaj’s temple, Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math, will go on the parikrama first because they know we follow the real path, the real way. And we have no problems, we have no fear because we know our Guru always supports us. If we have full faith in our Gurudev, then nobody can break us.
