There is one story that happened in Bengal. There was one family, a brahman and his wife. They had a temple and worshipped the Deities of Radha-Madhav in their house. Every day the brahman went to collect some food and gave it to Krishna.
Krishna said in Srimad Bhagavad-gita, “I have created everything, I am the creator of all creation. So, if you take something without giving it first to Me, you are taking stolen things. I have created everything, and I have created everything for Myself, not for you. If I give you something, you can take it, otherwise you cannot.” We think we do everything ourselves, we can get everything ourselves, but it is not true. Krishna does everything, if you read Srimad Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, you can know then what is the position of Krishna. He is the creator of all creation, that is why if we think we do something ourselves, it is not true.
So, every day that brahman read Srimad Bhagavad-gita, went to collect some rice, fruit, vegetables, etc. His wife would cook, and then they offered the bhog and finally took that prasadam.
One day, the brahman was reading the ninth chapter of Srimad Bhagavad-gita, and when he came to this sloka:
অনন্যাশ্চিন্তয়ন্তো মাং যে জনাঃ পর্য্যুপাসতে ।
তেষাং নিত্যাভিযুক্তানাং যোগক্ষেমং বহাম্যহম্ ॥
ananyāś chintayanto māṁ, ye janāḥ paryupāsate
teṣāṁ nityābhiyuktānāṁ, yoga-kṣemaṁ vahāmy aham
“I bear the responsibility of acquiring and protecting the necessities of My fully dependent devotees who are always absorbed in thought of Me, and who worship Me in every way” (Srimad Bhagavad-gita: 9.22).
He thought, “What? There must be some typo... It is not right! I go for collection every day, I collect myself, and Krishna says, ‘If you take shelter in Me, I will carry your food.’ It is wrong—Krishna does not carry anything for me. I do everything myself.” Thinking there was a mistake in Srimad Bhagavad-gita, the brahman tore the book.
Krishna Himself said, “Srimad Bhagavad-gita is My heart, Srimad Bhagavad-gita is My body,” so when the brahman cut the book, at that time Srimati Laksmi Devi was serving Narayan and Narayan suddenly got a shock, as if somebody had hit Him on His back. He said, “Oh, Laksmi Devi, I have to come down to this world...”
So, Krishna came to this world in the form of a twelve-year-old boy and came to the brahman’s house (the brahman was not there at that time because he had gone for collection). The boy came to the door, loaded with bags, and cried, “Oh, please take these bags! I cannot carry it!” The brahmani, the wife of the brahman, came out and asked, “Who are You? Why have You come?” She then saw the bag of vegetables and the bag of rice the boy was carrying, and asked, “What gave You these bags??” The boy answered, “The brahman told me to carry it here! I did not want to take it, but he forced Me to carry it. I told him it was too heavy, but he beat Me and told me to bring it here.” The brahmani took the bags and the boy quickly went away.
In the meantime, the brahman went house to house to collect some bhog. Usually he would go to one-two houses only, but that day he went to several houses but he could not get anything. In some house there was a sick family member, somebody went to hospital, another house was locked, and so on. He could not get anything.
By twelve o’clock the brahmani cooked the bhog, but the brahman was not coming and she began to worry... In a few hours, he came back, crying.
“Why are you crying?” asked the brahmani.
“I have not got anything today! We will not be able to offer anything to Krishna today and we will get any food today. That is why I am so sad...”
“What are you talking about? You have sent so much rice and vegetables with that small boy! And He said you even had beaten Him also!”
“I did not send anybody, I did not give anything to anybody. What are you talking about? I have not beaten anybody!” The brahman was very surprised.
The brahman went to the temple and prayer, “O Radha-Madhav! What has happened today? I did not send anybody...” Then he suddenly notice that Srimad Bhagavad-gita on the asan. Every day after he finished reading Srimad Bhagavad-gita, he kept the book on the shelf, so he asked his wife, “Did you read Bhagavad-gita? I read it earlier in the morning and left it on the shelf, why is it lying here?” Then he saw that the book was open on the page with that sloka in the ninth chapter and he understood what had happened. Krishna Himself was saying, “What is written here is true! You were wrong and made a mistake. It is true, if somebody is surrendered to Me, I carry everything for them. Now you can see it yourself.”
The brahman began to crying, “How unfortunate I am! I could not see Krishna, and I have beaten Him, I have beaten the Lord Himself!” Then he said to his wife, “O brahmani, you are so fortunate! You have seen Krishna Himself!...”
