Where can Kiev devotees be around 1 o'clock in the afternoon? Even street vendors and jokeries know that at this time the followers of Sankirtana movement gather by TSUM shop to walk down the central street in Kiev, chanting the Holy Names of Lord! This Sunday is the Disappearance Day of Srila Vrindavandas Thakur, the renowned author of Chaitanya Bhagavatam, and sure, it was the day when all Christians celebrate the Reising of Jesus Christ, so neither rain nor dull clouds could prevent devotee from performing sankirtana-yajna

There were not so many people outside, but nevertheless we met many nice smiling and open people. Probably, sulky and impregnable materialists appeared to be so unfortuante, that they didn't succeed in going out of their stuffy flats to hear the Holy Names of Lord. Following Sripad B.A. Madhav Maharaj's instructions, beside the main equipment (mridanga, karatals, fyers, incense and frank smiles) we also took a flag and some prasadam (dry mango slices).

People reacted in various ways. But on the whole, they were friendly. Some were puzzled at our reply on traditional among Christians for this day exlamation "Christ has arisen!": "Truely arisen! Chant Hare Krishna!" We also met a parson: he smiled, make the sign of the cross over us; we in our turn bowed to him, and then the parson took some prasadam!

Jaya Srila Gurudeva! Oh Ocean of Divine Mercy, we are happy to serve you and your servitors!

After sankirtana devotees gathered in the homelike cultural center, cooked bhoga, looked over recent pictures, then held the evening arati, read an article about Srila Vrindavandas Thakur. And then, the leader of the center reminded us about the oncoming ekadasi: "Keep your eyes open! This is a special day, when it is much easier (then on other days) to satisfy the Lord with your service. Thus devotees try to do more service on Ekadasi to give pleasure to Srila Gurudev."
